The Rich History of Archibald's Men's Club

Archibald's Gentleman's Club has a long history of bringing smiles to the faces of the area finest businessmen, politicians, celebrities, and tourists.  Dan Harris, the owner and operator of Archibald's adult entertainment club, launched the business in January of 1969.  He founded the club just two blocks from the White House and conveniently close to three Metro stops. The result? Archibald’s Strip Club is the only adult club located in Washington DC's prestigious K Street corridor.

The structure itself has a long and interesting history.  In 1909 it was originally a townhouse and dental office and in 1963 it was converted into a restaurant called Tinker Bells 1520 Club. It was six years later, in 1969, that our own Dan Harris purchased the building and introduced dancing showgirls to the area. He called this first version of his business "The Executive Club".

The Executive club was one of the first adult entertainment clubs in the capitol, and one of the first adult clubs to feature live exotic dancers. Eventually, in 1975, Dan updated the facility and changed the name of the venue to Archibald's Gentleman's Club.

Additionally, in 1978, Dan launched a new business called The Comedy Café on the property’s second floor.  It was in this historic venue that Dan premiered many once-unknown comedians, such as Jay Leno, Bill Marr, Dave Chappell, Ellen DeGeneres, Drew Carey, Rosie O’Donnell, Wanda Sykes, Martin Lawrence and many others.

In 1986 the Comedy Cafe was moved to the newly remodeled third floor, and Jonathan’s, a sports bar named after his son, took its place on the second.  Archibald's was now one part of a full trio of diverse, cutting edge hospitality venues.
